My son, the barber

Well, our DS Luke is always full of surprises but
I didn't see this one coming.

He's got himself an apprenticeship to be a barber.
Not a virtual Xbox barber, but a real one with clippers and scissors and hair and everything.

He has been going for many years to a trendy football themed barbers, called Turnstyles - clever name, huh?! - and went there for a trim on Thursday.

In the window there was a sign advertising for an Apprentice.
He got the form, filled it in, returned it on Friday.
He had the interview yesterday afternoon, and was offered the job there and then.
He accepted, there and then.
Hands shaken, deal done.

This is Luke.
The bedroom dwelling, zombie killing
Xbox boy.
Who says putting a mug in the dishwasher is 'effort'.
He's got himself a job - a potential career, even.

He'll go to college 1 day a week for a year, working towards an NVQ2.
4 days a week he'll work at the shop, mostly developing his broom and kettle skills, I suspect.
And he'll be paid, not much, but he will be paid.

He's got to sit his 'A' levels in a few weeks so he'll start off by working Saturdays and once he's finished with school he'll be able to go full time.
He's only 16 years old.

I know it's not wildly exciting for you all but it's incredibly exciting for us, so I hope you'll forgive me for rambling on about it :0)

ps It seemed a good excuse to include a
photo of Johnny Depp too!

I'm excited for you Jo! I know what a HUGE step this is for a youngster starting out. You've obviously done a good job with your boy and now you can watch him make his way in the world. Hurrah! pen x

WTG Luke!! Great stuff- I'm sure you're all thrilled to bits.
Boys do tend to be like this - they suddenly become self-motivating, which is a shock to the rest of us!
Lots of hugs xx
p.s. thanks for the gratuitous pic of Johnny. :)

My goodness me - what can I say. Can you introduce him to my son. A bit of get up ad go might rub off - on the other hand......

Well done Luke atta boy.

As for Johnny Depp sigh, it doesn't matter what weird costume they put him in they can't disguise the sex appeal. OK praps Willie Wonka was a step too far - just.

They all have to start somewhere - good for DS Luke for taking the initiative - and if he gets good will he do home styling gratis (LOL) - this could be a good thing for the whole family! J

Wow! I'd say that is something of which to be very proud. Only 16, and thinking beyond the next game to play. A BIG round of applause to Mom and Dad!

This is brilliant news and I'd be rambling on if one of my girls did something like this too! What a great feeling that he'll leave school and be training straight away for a career. The barbers shop in our small town is never empty!
