Summer of Colour - Brown

This week the colour theme on
Summer of Colour
(see flashing button on sidebar)

I had a few ideas for this;
chocolate (of course!)
garden soil
brown hair/eyes
chocolate (oh, did I already say that one?!)
but all the time I had the song
"Golden Brown" by The Stranglers going
round and round my head.

So that's what I went with.
(Sorry, chocolate lovers!).

It is commonly believed, although never categorically confirmed by The Stranglers, that this song is
about heroin.  They suggested that it COULD
(only could) be about a woman.
By the look of the video it would seem
heroin is more probable.

Oscar Wilde is believed to have been a user of
opium and as opium comes from the same source
as heroin I used this image of him with a rather spaced out
expression on his face.  I was inspired by the
surroundings in the video, and wanted
to bring the richness to my brown background.
The exotic looking lights were clipped from a magazine.

I included a splatter of vibrant pink and this has earned
me another chance to win this week's prize of goodies.
It looks like there's been a bit of a massacre but,
hey, it went with Oscar's jacket!

Many thanks again to Kristin
for organizing The Summer of Colour.
It has been such fun to take part and a great
opportunity to 'meet' other bloggers.

I'll post this with Kristin and then I'll visit as many of
the other people taking part as I possibly can.
If I don't visit you, I'm so sorry, but I'll try and
catch up with you soon.
Thank you EVERYONE for your many many
comments, they mean such a lot to me -
never before have SO MANY people even looked
at what I've made, let along commented.

These pages are also my
Art Journal Every Day
entry for the last 3 days.
I know, I know, I spent a ridiculously long
time on that background!
(which is really more 'lush' in the flesh than
it looks here).

A song I have always loved, AND Oscar Wilde (a favourite character from history) - what's not to love about this card?

One of my favourites from the past - should I say two of my favourites from the past. Oscar Wilde, drugged silly or not has always been a favourite. Beautiful imaginative work as ever dear one.

I reckon you could be right about the meaning of the song - never thought of that before! It's a bit like Puff the Magic Dragon, when I found out about that one I was in shock for days......regards ann.

Really awesome collage! :) But I was so looking forward to the chocolate. :) And I know what you mean. I can't do a journal page a day either since it takes me days to finish up one page. :)

I love the combination of the song and the art.

OW could be a Californian. They grow the weed in Mendocino county and the strung out are everywhere. Wine tasting at least leave one merry.

Hey I was thinking of chocolate too!LOL!!
I love this! What are the things in the corner? Are they chandeliers(I don't know if I spelled that right)? It is very rich looking I think!

Loving the design you have put Oscar Wilde into, brilliant touch. Annette x said...

Oh, I like it! Love those light/lantern things. I want some for my house, LOL. I prefer to believe the song is about an exotic beauty with golden brown skin. That would be more worthy of a song, anyway.

joanna, I love those lamps you clipped out of a magazine, they are perfect for this. The whole thing works together really well - the lavish background, the splatters, the curious looking Oscar wilde . . . the rubber stamped words (that takes a lot of effort!). yummmmy, give me golden brown anytime! You did a fantastic job. xo lenna

It's just one of those colours that I don't get along with, I had a brown page to work on whilst I was away and got grumpier and grumpier with it until I turned it red - then I could cope - I'm just not a heritage girl! Just don't get it LOL - however, you're page is one of those that I admire and think now why can't I do one like that!

Fantastic! I love those hanging lights and Oscar does indeed look a bit spaced out! Great journal spread.

Carin said...

Oh man, you're going to have me humming golden brown for the rest of the night now (even though I hear it every day since it's hubby's ringtone- he's a major Stranglers fan... as an aside I think he's moving onto the Persuaders theme for his next one- another fab tune even if the series was naff!)

That major diversion aside- fabulous spread. Love Oscar and the chandelier type lights, they just make the page! Great work!

I love this post! Everything about it. First of all, thank you for sharing that great video - new to me, but I agree with your assumption ;) AND your page is just amazing. I LOVE all that texture, your central image and agree that the chandeliers really make it pop. Just beautiful, xo

I'm shocked! I never knew the song was about that! I'm so innocent I am! Love the pages though, so gorgeous and texturey again. I bet this book is going to be really fat by the end of it!
