Out of the Journal - Final Week

Well, August has come to an end,
and with it Dina Wakley's
'Out of the Journal'
fun also draws to a close.

My final canvas is 10" x 8"
with an acrylic paint background
(blotted with a sheet of kitchen paper
towel, giving the swirly, dotty effect).

(Like a Bird on a Wire)
I hand carved the 'birds on the wire' stamp.

(Birds close up)
I should have pressed harder to get a
better print but decided to leave it as it was.

I had fun carving the stamp.
I got the soft cut mini sheets from
a seller on ebay, called handprinted,
who sent them superfast.
They really are easier to carve than the old lino sheets
I last had a carve-up with 100 years ago (approx).
Despite this, I still managed to skin a knuckle on my
right hand (don't quite know how!).

Thank you Dina for hosting this weekly fun
throughout August,
and thank you to everyone for your lovely comments :)

Oooh, it's gorgeous! I LOVE The birds, the blue and your pretty text! And those carving sheets sound awesome - I've never tried that before.
AND YES, you called it - I have been regretting the studio clean up for a week or so now ;) BUT there is at least a light at the end of the tunnel . . . xoxo

Love the canvas, love the song....I saw Leonard Cohen at Newcastle City Hall in the early 70's...the songs were well sung, heartfelt , miserable...and in between he was HAPPY!! Still haven't got over it nearly 40 years later!

very impressed with your carving. I can't even carve meat!

Your bird art is fabulous! I love the color, and the sentiment. But the birdies are the best, especially since you carved the stamp yourself!

Terri

I love LOVE your handcarved stamps. And, yesh, what is with the lino- do you know that they STILL give it to kids to carve up? Just asking for an accident (or several) :)

Oh hand carved stamps I've always wanted to have a go at these but never found a suitable medium - will check out the e-bay seller, loving the image and I like it slightly faded out!

Glad you had fun with this challenge.

Love your birds, and the dotty effect from the paper towel. I remember the hard lino from primary school - incredible to think they used to let us loose with lino cutting tools in back then - can't imagine it now!

Fantastic canvas - I love the simplicity of just the two colours - it's very effective and works so well. The song is one of my favourites and I often listen to Leonard Cohen when I'm working in my studio - a great idea to use his wonderful words in your work.

what a lovely canvas! The quote is perfect with your beautifully hand carved birds on a wire stamp! I'm almost finished with Julie Balzer's online stamp carving class and have loved every bit of it-I'm hooked!

Totally fab, I love the texture of the birds, you didn't need to press harder at all, what a great result. Really lovely canvas! Mx

I love the simplicity of it, the single color and your wonderful hand carved stamps. I keep thinking I'd like to try it, but haven't gotten around to it. The combination of all the elements with that great quote worked wonderfully together...
